Koeman admits surprise at Southampton success

With the arrival of Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas to Stamford Bridge, Chelsea was and still is one of the favorites on winning the Premier League this new season. Arsenal could also be considered as one of the title contenders after they signed Danny Welbeck, Calum Chambers and Alexis Sanchez.

Just by signing a high profile and recognized player almost any club can dramatically improve their hopes of winning a title and even before the Premier League season initiated, there were a number of clubs that were favorites on winning it. Manchester City did not go through a very active summer transfer window but they are still one of the favorite clubs on lifting the Premier League title once more.

At the moment, Southampton is located in the 2nd spot of the Premier League standings having collected 13 points; they are ahead of Manchester City, Arsenal and everyone else only behind the table toppers Chelsea.

This start of the season is something that not even head coach of Southampton himself was expecting as Ronald Koeman admitted in saying that he is surprised about just how well his team has been performing so far.

When the Dutch manager Ronald Koeman was asked if he was surprised about the start of the season, he replied by saying: ‘’a little’’ and later went on saying: "You always have to wait after a lot of changes in the team. But we had a good pre-season, we had some difficult moments in the club, a lot of people, even the press was a little bit afraid, with questions about relegation. But we know what our qualities are, and little by little we have shown them. I'm satisfied with how we're playing. Now we can watch the table tonight and take a picture."

Ronald Koeman was brought to the St. Mary’s Stadium as he replaced Mauricio Pochettino who joined Tottenham Hotspur and so far things have been going great for the recently appointed Dutch coach of Southampton.
